Delivering: responsibly
The world is changing, and the way we operate needs to change with it. Here at Kidds Transport, we've always prided ourselves on reliable, efficient deliveries. But in today's climate, efficiency needs to consider not just time and cost, but also our environmental impact. That's why we're committed to taking concrete steps to reduce the carbon footprint of our haulage operations.
We understand that diesel vehicles are a reality in our industry for now, and that because they are still the workhouse we and our customers rely on, a complete shift won't happen overnight.
But that doesn't mean we can't be part of the solution.
We believe that significant progress is achievable through a combination of practical measures, ongoing investment, and a collaborative approach across the value chain we support.
On the road to Net Zero by 2050
For more than six decades, generations of our family-run business have kept the wheels of commerce turning. We take pride in that legacy, but we also want to ensure future generations inherit a healthy planet.
It's why we've already converted all our lighting to low energy LED fittings and have taken steps to maximise opportunities for waste recycling.
Now, alongside these existing efforts, we've decided to commit to making our haulage and warehousing operations Net Zero by 2050.
In order to measure our future progress, we have developed an initial baseline assessment of our Scope 1, 2, and 3 CO2 equivalent (CO2eq) emissions, otherwise known as our 'carbon footprint'.
This commitment is about more than just environmental targets - it's about ensuring a sustainable future for our business, our employees, and the communities in which we operate.
Driving change: where next?
We have identified a number of initiatives that we plan to investigate and that initial estimates suggest could help us reduce our carbon footprint by 35% over five years, amounting to a cut of more than 25,000 tonnes of CO2eq emissions a year.
These include:
- Installing solar panels on our warehouse and office roof space, complete with battery back-up
- Investing in vehicles that run on compressed biogas made from the anaerobic digestion of organic wastes, and/or battery electric trucks
We also plan to implement an accredited ISO 14001 environmental management system to help guide further continuous environmental improvements.
Sticking to the route
We'll be reporting on our progress at yearly intervals to ensure we stay on track, and to demonstrate our continuing commitment to reducing our carbon emissions in line with carefully considered and achievable targets.
